Glasgow

If you are looking for a day out from Doune Bed and Breakfast, head to Glasgow.

Just off the Glasgow Queen Street train is George Square. Surrounded by impressive buildings, perhaps the most impressive is the Glasgow Council Office. The exterior gives a clue as to the interior, but enter and hold your breath. It is an extraordinary building and speaks to Glasgow’s influence in the industrial revolution as the second city in the UK after London. The volume of marble inside the building exceeds that used in the Vatican. That should give you an idea of the wealth of the merchants in Glasgow way back when.

The main square is a hive of activity throughout the year. Over Christmas they erect a large ice rink – and you can skate under fairy lights to the sound of music.

You may choose to while away a few hours shopping in the Italian designer centre or sipping coffee outdoors. Glasgow rivals Edinburgh for places to eat from cheap and cheerful to fine dining.
Come the evening there are numerous stylish bars and clubs.
